Health and Safety Guidelines and Policies at the 2021 Los Angeles Marathon


Health and safety is always a top priority for us at the Los Angeles Marathon. This year, in response to the LA County “Mega Event” guidelines, we will be implementing the following health and safety measures to ensure a safe race weekend experience for all runners, volunteers, staff, vendors, and spectators.

Below you will find requirements and FAQ for attending and participating at the 2021 Los Angeles Marathon on Sunday, November 7, 2021.

Health & Fitness Expo: November 5 – 6, Dodger Stadium

The Expo will be held outdoors at Dodger Stadium and is open to the general public.

It is recommended that all attendees of the Expo wear face coverings.

You do not need proof of vaccine or negative COVID-19 test to attend the Health & Fitness Expo.

All participants (except those who purchased Race Day Hospitality) must attend the Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, November 5 or Saturday, November 6 to provide proof of vaccination or negative COVID-19 test and receive a verification band.


LA Big 5K: November 6, Dodger Stadium

There are no COVID testing or proof of vaccination requirements to attend or participate in the LA Big 5K.

It is recommended that all attendees and participants of the LA Big 5K wear face coverings before and after the race, it is not required for participants on course.

Los Angeles Marathon: November 7, Dodger Stadium

- Proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or a proof of a negative COVID-19 test result is required prior to entry for all participants, staff, volunteers, media, and spectators entering the secured Start Line area of the Los Angeles Marathon at Dodger Stadium


- Face coverings are required while inside the Dodger Stadium Start Line secured area (except when actively eating or drinking)

- Participants may remove face coverings after crossing the Start line

- Proof of vaccination is required for access to the Club, Suite, and Club Level of Dodger Stadium. Providing proof of negative test is not sufficient to gain access to these areas

- Facial coverings are recommended at all event areas outside of the secure Start line area for spectators, media, participants (when not on the race course), and staff


HEALTH & SAFTEY CHECK IN

All participants (except those who have pre-purchased Race Day Hospitality) must attend the Health & Fitness Expo on Friday, November 5 or Saturday, November 6 to:

- Pick up their bib number

- Provide proof of vaccination or negative test and receive a verification band

- Drop off gear bags (optional). There is no race day gear check except for those who purchased Race Day VIP hospitality.


Participants are required to show proof of Photo ID (which means an original or copy of an identification card including: Drivers license, government issued ID, school or work ID card, or passport) that matches the name on their bib and vaccine or testing record.

Staff, volunteers, media, and spectators, planning to enter the secured start line area at Dodger Stadium, are encouraged to provide proof of vaccination or negative test at the Health & Fitness Expo to receive their Proof Band required to gain access to the Dodger Stadium Start line secured area. This can be done in the Registration Area of the Expo.

NEW CHANGES FOR GEAR CHECK

To minimize lines and gathering of people, there is no race day gear check at the 2021 Los Angeles Marathon. Instead, runners will have the option to check a bag at the health & Fitness Expo on Friday
and Saturday and will be able to pick up their bag at Gear Check Pick Up after the race.

- The bag you check must be the official Gear Check bag you will receive at the Health & Fitness Expo; no other bags will be accepted at Gear Check

- There is no race day Gear Check (unless you have purchased Race Day VIP Hospitality)

- Gear Check will close at 5pm on Saturday, November 6 at the close of the Health & Fitness Expo

REQUIREMENTS FOR PROOF OF VACCINE

If Johnson & Johnson (J&J): verify single dose with date at least 14 days prior to November 7

If Pfizer or Moderna, verify two doses with dates; the most recent date must be at least 14 days prior to November 7

There are a variety of vaccination records that are acceptable as proof:

o Vaccine Record Card or Health Record

o CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card

o World Health Organization (WHO) Vaccine Record Card

o Documentation of vaccination from the healthcare provider or entity that provided the COVID-19 vaccines

o California Immunization Registry (CAIR2) Vaccination Record

o Digital Vaccination Record issued by the California Department of Public Health or an approved company such as Healthvana or Carbon Health

REQUIREMENTS FOR PROOF OF NEGATIVE COVID-19 TEST

Proof of negative COVID-19 test means a printed document, email or text message displayed on a phone, from a test provider or laboratory* that shows results of a polymerase chain reaction (PCR) or antigen COVID-19 test conducted within 72 hours which is after 6:55am on Thursday, November 4.


The printed document, email or text message must include the person’s name, type of test performed, date of test, and negative result.

*Lab must either have an Emergency Use Authorization by US Food and Drug Administration or operating per the Laboratory Developed Test requirements by the US Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services.


MORE INFORMATION ON VACCINE & NEGATIVE TEST REQUIREMENTS

The Start Line of the 2021 Los Angeles Marathon is considered a “Mega Event” by LA County guidelines and as such, all participants, staff, volunteers, media, and spectators entering the secured start line area at Dodger Stadium on race day (Nov 7) must show proof of full vaccination against COVID-19 or a pre-entry (diagnostic) test result prior to entry. Proof will be cross-checked against a photo ID for those 18 years of age or older and meet these guidelines.

Participants must show their photo ID and proof of vaccination or negative test when picking up their bib number at the Health & Fitness Expo. Bib numbers will not be issued without valid vaccination or negative test proof. Participants will receive a wristband (Verification Band) which is required to gain access to the Dodger Stadium Start line. Participants will not be able to pass through security on race morning without a Verification Band. It is recommended to put the Verification Band on upon receiving it. Anyone forgetting their Verification Band will be required to re-prove their vaccination or negative status to gain entry to the start line. 

Designated lines will be available for staff, volunteers, media, and spectators to show proof of vaccination or negative test at the security entrances to the Start line area at Dodger Stadium beginning at a to be announced time.

Access to Dodger Stadium Suites, Clubs, and Suite Level on November 7 will be limited to persons who have provided proof of vaccination and received a second and different Verification band. The second band will be available to members of specific charity, sponsor, and LA Road Runner groups who have been assigned or invited to use facilities in these areas.

Providing proof of negative test is not sufficient to gain access to indoor areas such as Clubs and Suites.

There are no testing or vaccine requirements for the Health & Fitness Expo, LA Big 5K, LA ½ K Kids Run, or any event area outside of the Secure Start Line area.

FACIAL COVERINGS

Face coverings must be worn at all times inside the Dodger Stadium Start line secured area except when actively eating or drinking. Participants may remove face coverings after crossing the Start line.

Face coverings are recommended at all times for spectators, media, staff, volunteers, and participants (when not on the course).

Health and Safety FAQ

Do I need a vaccine to participate in the 2021 Los Angeles Marathon?

No, you do not need to be vaccinated. Non-vaccinated persons will need to provide proof of negative COVID-19 test within 72 hours.

What do I need to show proof of vaccine?

Acceptable proof of vaccination include: o Vaccine Record Card or Health Record o CDC COVID-19 Vaccination Record Card o World Health Organization (WHO) Vaccine Record Card o Documentation of vaccination from the healthcare provider or entity that provided the COVID-19 vaccines o California Immunization Registry (CAIR2) Vaccination Record o Digital Vaccination Record issued by the California Department of Public Health or an approved company such as Healthvana or Carbon Health Additionally, any individual age 18 or older must produce identification bearing the same identifying information as the proof of vaccination.

Do I need to wear a mask at the event?

Masks are required at the Secure Start Line area at Dodger Stadium on Sunday, November 7 and while on Shuttles to the start line on November 7. Masks are recommended at all other times while not on the race course. Participants on course do not need to wear a mask.

Do participants on course need to wear a facial covering?

No, participants do not need to wear a mask once they cross the start line.

Do I need to be vaccinated or show negative covid-19 test to attend the Health & Fitness Expo?

No you do not.

Do I need to be vaccinated or show negative covid-19 test to attend the LA Big 5K?

No you do not.

Where will I have my vaccine status or Negative test checked?

All participants (who did not purchase Race Day Hospitality) are required to pick up their bib at the Health & Fitness Expo on November 5 – 6. Participants are required to show proof of Photo ID (which means an original or copy of an identification card including: Drivers license, government issued ID, school or work ID card, or passport) that matches the name on their bib and vaccine or testing record

Can my family and friends attend the marathon with me if they do not have a vaccine or negative covid-19 test?

Yes, but they cannot attend the Start Line Secure Area at Dodger Stadium without proof of vaccine or negative Covid-19 test.

What happens if I test positive for COVID-19 within 72-hours of the event?

Participants who test positive for COVID-19 within 14 days of the event (on or after Monday, October 25, 2021) will have an opportunity to transfer their registration to virtual participation There are no refunds. All requests must be submitted by Saturday, November 6 and include proof of a COVID-19 result. Any requests submitted after November 6 will not be accepted.

Will there be Gear Check on race morning?

No, there will not be Gear Check race morning unless you have Race Day Hospitality. All participants will need to check their bag on Friday, November 5 or Saturday November 6 at the Health & Fitness Expo.

If I have Race Day Hospitality, do I need to attend the Health & Fitness expo for any reason?

No, if you purchased Race Day Hospitality you do not need to attend the Health & Fitness Expo. You will have access to Gear Check race morning. You will also need to have your Proof of Vaccine or Negative Covid Test checked race morning. If you are taking Los Angeles Marathon Shuttles, you will have that checked prior to getting on the shuttle. If you are arriving to Dodger Stadium on your own, you will have it checked before entering the secure area.

When does the 72-Hours for testing start?

72-hours starts from the Marathon Race Start at 6:55am Sunday, November 7. The earliest you can get tested is Thursday, November 4 at 6:55am.
